Review: The Monkey's Paw by W. W. Jacobs

 Review:

Wow, wow, wow...it's been so, so long since I've read something like this. Something that left me with such a strange but gratifying feeling for having read a story that I liked so much.

Remember the Simpsons episode where they get a wish-granting monkey's paw? well, this is the story that inspired it.

The story begins with father and son playing chess at home, waiting for Sergeant Major Morris, fresh from India, to knock on the door, waiting to hear stories about his journey.

He doesn't tell them much, however, but shows them a wish-granting monkey's paw,

Both father and son are attracted to it, but it turns out that this paw has a kind of curse on it.

The sergeant tells them, that the paw grants 3 wishes to 3 different owners.

And he also knows that the last wish of the previous owner was death.

The sergeant with some distress tells that he also made his three wishes and they all came true.

The homeowners ask for the paw and the sergeant, after warning them to be careful, gives it to him.

The first wish is money, but the way it is fulfilled is horrible.

I can't tell you more, but from here on the story gets downright creepy. Wishes are granted but in a creepy way.

To try to make up for the results of the first wish they make a worse one....

And the ending...that ending.... left me wanting more.... I was left with my mouth open and not wanting it to end like that.

the ending leaves you wanting to know what was on the other side of that door or what did it look like!

This is my first time reading W. W. Jacobs, I will definitely do more research on him so I can bring you more reviews.

Did you already know this author? do you know any other of his stories?
