Review: The Time Machine by H G Wells

 Title: The Time Machine

Author: H G Wells

Pages: 131

Science Fiction

Synopsis:

-A long time ago I had the idea of a machine?

-To travel in time! -exclaimed the young boy.

-And it could travel in absolutely any direction in time and space, depending on the pilot's taste.

The Time Machine was G. H. Wells' first successful work and a pioneer in Time Travel. At the end of the 20th century, a man devises a machine with which he claims to be able to travel in time. To the disbelief of the scientists of the time, the Time Traveler manages to reach the future, where, after a series of adventures, he lands in a terrifying world inhabited by strange beings called Eloi and Morlocks.

Review:

This story begins with our protagonist trying to convince a group of people (among them there is a doctor and a psychologist) that he has built a machine capable of time travel. And for these meetings he brings a miniature machine that when he lowers the lever disappears.

The "traveler", as he is called by those who attend the meeting, claims to have a machine that can fit one person.

The one who narrates the story is not the protagonist, but one of the people who attend these meetings, which adds a little more mystery. And what we realize is that in principle, no one believes in this time machine, but the way "the traveler" expresses himself, the confidence with which he speaks of his project, plants the seed of doubt in all of them.

In the second meeting, "the traveler" arrives a little late, thirsty, ambiento, with torn and dirty clothes. Everyone is surprised but he does not want to say anything until he gets himself together.

Then he begins to tell what he experienced.

Indeed, I traveled to the future, specifically to the year 802,701 and at that time the human race as we know it no longer exists.

There are two races, one called Eloi, and the Morlocks.

The first are harmless, tender, not at all intelligent, they give the feeling that if you hit them they will float away like a balloon, they do not understand the questions that the traveler asks them on several occasions because they speak another language. They were like very playful children. For example, there was Weena who danced around the traveler putting flowers in his pockets. These little creatures really endeared me to them, although, at some point, they became a bit tiresome.

On the other hand, there were the Morlocks, living under the ground, in a kind of subway. Although they seemed to reason a little more, the difference was not that much.

Both species are afraid of each other. And added to this, one is afraid of the light, the other of the dark.

On this trip, the traveler suffers a mishap and must recover the machine.

The story is quite entertaining, I liked it a lot. Also, at least in my case, I was very curious to know what was in the future, I wanted to know more and more, just like the protagonist. Wells generates that, especially at the end of the book.

I don't know if I read this story at a time when I shouldn't have, but the ending really got to me. I don't want to tell you too much, but I found it heartbreaking.

And needless to say, it leaves you with a tremendous uncertainty about what happened to that machine and its occupant!

When I read the last page I couldn't believe it had ended like that...

I liked that, at the beginning, "the traveler" like most of us, expected to find a world with super advanced people, with unsurpassed intelligence; he thought he would be considered a savage next to them. But that was not the case.
